A Sun Shiny Day

As the rain comes down and the green grass appears from beneath the snow, sketches for summer build in our mind. The valley comes to life as the red apples pop into view and tractors are busy in the fields preparing the hay. But no day is complete without clothes blowing on the line. A Sun Shiny Day is 9”x 12”.

A Busy Summer Day

Although we are still in the heart of winter, it is time to think ahead to warmer weather. Whenever I need to slow down and think peaceful, warm thoughts, I remember the valley as it was in summers gone by. I hope this painting takes you to that special place where you can relax and feel warm. “A Busy Summer Day” is 11” x 14”.

A Wharf at Port George, N. S.

This is another painting of Port George in the early 1800’s taken from a postcard I purchased last summer at the Candle in the Window Gift Shop. This is just one of the many wharfs that lined the coast of this shipping community during that period. If you are visiting this part of the province, take the opportunity to visit the gift shop and be regaled with stories from the past. You will be amazed at the history of this beautiful area. The painting is called “A Wharf at Port George, N. S. and is 6” x 12”.

Midnight

During the winter months I get together with friends to paint. Today I felt like trying something new and voila! Using only black, white and shades of grey I created this painting that I call “Midnight”. It is 5” x 7”. I hope you like it.

Swinging from the Old Birch Tree

One of my favourite trees is a birch. Summer or winter, they stand out amongst all the other trees in the valley as their bark reflects the sun. This painting is called “Swinging from the Old Birch Tree” and is 11” x 14”. It takes me back to those sunny afternoons when I would while away the hours swinging from such a swing.

Along the Bay

Living on the coastline of the Bay of Fundy, one becomes used to seeing fishing vessels at one point and a farm with horses and cattle at another. Some fishermen raise animals and some farmers go fishing. It is the way of life here; everyone working and living together. This painting portrays my perspective of what it is like to live here on the shore. As fishermen and farmers continue to struggle to preserve their way of life, it is important to capture the way it is. The painting “Along the Shore” is 11” x 14.

In the Shadow of the Cross

It is Christmastime again and I am full of the holiday spirit from the preparations, festivities and concerts thus far and thoughts of those to come. It has finally turned cold and there is a skiff of snow on the ground adding the perfect touch to the Maritime winter scene. Thanks to each of you it has been a great year for my paintings with 110 sold. This painting - In the Shadow of the Cross - was created to celebrate that Bethlehem night when the star shone from the heavens and the angels sang the first song of Christmas - peace on earth, good will to men. But this painting also takes one beyond the manger scene to the foot of the cross - the true reason for Christ's incarnation. During the hustle and bustle of Christmas may peace and joy fill your home and may each of you experience anew the touch of the Master's hand. Merry Christmas!
